Message For future Z-fans that experience this problem - here is the latest update....

Z1 sent me another temp sensor (part of transmission sub harness for solenoids - so it has to be cut and spliced in trans pan - under control assembly.

I suggest doing a series of electrical tests - the on service manual is great...pages AT-58 and 59.

You cannot test temp sensor without cutting the wires - there is no connector even though shop manual makes it sound like there is.

As for my status - I started the sensor swap by doing one more electrical test on the sub-harness from trans to connector E-24 connector. After removing exhaust - I added test wire and cut into insulation for circuit test. The circuit from E24 (pass-eng compart) passed. This was from connector down to white protective sleeve on the harness where it enters the transmission body.

Based on data pointing to a failure somewhere within the transmission – I removed the trans pan.
I first ran the OHM test per the Nissan manual (Page - AT-87) on the new temp sensor – and it was in spec. I removed the installed sensor from trans and ran the same OHM test – it passed.

This led to an isolated wiring failure between the terminal cord assembly and the first 3 inches of wire within the transmission. I ran a resistance check across both wires (wires 33/35) and wire 35 FAILED.

Since the sub harness has connections to 5 solenoids, multiple connectors, and the temperature sensor - and also has a bulk head fitting (terminal cord assembly) – this is not in a serviceable area and will require a new sub harness.

This requires removal of the control valves assembly - and I am not cool with that. I am talking to Z1 about a transmission replacement as this beyond my comfort level and I have done enough. Hopefully - they will do what is right.

I will post final outcome.
